How Does Water Marbling Work?

To get started, fill a plastic bowl or container with room temperature water. This will allow the paint to float well on the surface of the water. Then, drop the different colors onto the surface of the water and use a wooden stick to work the paint in different directions. This can be done by drawing lines, making circular movements or creating other patterns.

You can then carefully lower the object you want to decorate into the water to transfer the pattern onto the object. It is important to lower the object slowly into the water so that no air bubbles are created that could disrupt the pattern.

Once the object is submerged and the pattern has stuck, you can carefully lift it out and let it dry. Depending on the type of object you are decorating, it may need to be baked, ironed or otherwise treated after drying to ensure the paint adheres well.
